Lambeth Palace has been the seat of the Archbishops of Canterbury since the thirteenth century. It has been restored and built onto many times since then and features a variety of architectural styles. In the early part of the fifteenth century, the Lollard’s Tower was built to imprison heretics. Within the Palace grounds is located the Lambeth Palace library, which is known for having the largest religious collection outside of the Vatican. This includes a copy of the Gutenberg Bible (1450’s), and the Lambeth Bible, which dates back to the twelfth century.
