Manufactured and engraved by Hancock for Thomas and Alexander Hutchison, merchants in High Street, Edinburgh. St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland. The Latin translates to, “None shall hurt me with impunity.” The X-shaped cross is said to have come from Achaius, King of the Scots, who was said to have seen a bright St. Andrew’s cross appear in the night sky the evening before his battle and victory over King Athelstan of England.
