Obv: View of a church, HENDON VALUE ONE HALFPENNY, 1794 in exergue. Rev: A greyhound, I PROMISE TO PAY ON DEMAND, B. PRICE in exergue. Edge: Plain.
Uncirculated and Choice brown. Super strike, showing highly detailed devices, especially on the dog, which is very hard to find thus. Reflective surfaces.
This trade token was issued to Benjamin Price, who owned a public house in Hendon called ‘The Greyhound’. The reverse image was also featured on his pub sign, making this an effective advertising piece as well as a trade token. The church shown on the obverse is St. Mary’s Church in Hendon, which still stands today.
