Formerly the residence of Frederick, Prince of Wales, eldest son on George II, Carleton House looked out on St. James Park. Later, after being rebuilt, George IV resided here while he was Prince of Wales, Prince Regent, and Sovereign. The Earls of Burlington were the original owners. It was demolished in 1826. Carlton Gardens and Carlton House Terrace replaced it
