The history of this church goes all the way back to the 10th century, when a wood building was described to be on the site. Replaced by a stone structure in the 12th century, the church would later survive the Great Fire of 1666. However, it was in such disrepair that Christopher Wren would mostly rebuild the church and become the largest of the 51 churches in London he designed after the fire.
