Obv: Man working at loom. Rev: PAYABLE ON DEMAND AT SPARKS & GIDLEYS LINEN & WOOLLEN GIRTH WEB MANUFACTORY. CREWKERNE. 1797. Edge: Milled.
Very Fine. Some edge knocks and obverse has some detritus remaining. Rare this nice and Scarce overall.
A token very hard to find in higher grades, this trade token was made for Samuel Sparks and Bartholomew Gidley who operated a girth web weaving manufactory together. The girth web was a tightly woven strip of cloth that would strap to a saddle and fit underneath and around the horse’s belly.
